To be honest, I was skeptical. Through ROTC, I had taken 6 credits in leadership & attended a month long encampment where we put our leadership skills to the test. I was not sure if I wanted to give up my last few days at home, and wasn't convinced they had anything to offer me. Boy was I wrong… [Leadership Advance] is not your typical conference. We learned about God & leadership in creative and exciting ways. I was introduced to the differences between military & Christian leadership. I learned how important it is for a leader to love people and that you don't always need to speak to lead. These lessons will prove to be invaluable when I am an officer and want to be able to share Jesus' love with those I am leading. - Carrie | Junior, Electrical Engineering

I really think people in general have the tendency to think God is only going to do or can do only what they can do themselves. I was really challenged to dream God-sized dreams- to dream dreams that only God can accomplish because He's the ultimate dream-releaser and the possibility of what God can and wants to do is endless. -

The experience at Leadership Advance really blessed my life. Those few days were extremely fruitful. For me, the conference wasn't about a "mountaintop experience," but was a time of reflection, spiritual & emotional challenge, teamwork, fellowship, & action: all things that are essential in positions of leadership. -

To me, Leadership Advance was a time not only to realize the strengths God has given me, but also to understand how my strengths fit with a much larger picture. By working in small groups I was able to see the abilities He has given others and His desire for us to embrace those differences and recognize all of them as aspects of God's own character. I had never really considered how many different qualities the Lord places within His leaders, and the weekend allowed me to see my strengths as well as my weaknesses. The coolest part was realizing that my weaknesses were another's strengths and that everyone's strengths played a valuable role in creating a ministry that truly embodied Christ. -

If someone would have asked me to name the big experiences in my life the past year, I probably would have mentioned my engagement, student teaching and working at Kenbrook. However, it has become clear now that before all these, setting the tone for the year was Leadership Advance and the growth spiritually and personally that occurred there. -

Leadership Advance was a turning point in my college career. The experience helped me to see my talents and abilities from a new perspective, it provided an environment where I was challenged to grow, and also helped me to discover Calvary as my church home. -
