Blessings by the Box
Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box or laundry basket at $30 per regular unit. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approx. $60-80.
Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single person for almost a month. The food is “restaurant grade” meats, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. which is acquired through AFM involvement with only the best producers/vendors of high quality, “name brand” foods. There are never any “seconds”, “damaged/dented”, or “day old” type products involved.
Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken, and pork at approx. $20 per unit. Many participants in the bonus program appreciate the expanded choices. There is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive. There are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. ALL FAMILIES no matter what their income are eligible.
How the Program Works
Orders and distribution are handled by church host sites. Orders are collected the first part of the month. The latter part of the month, on a Saturday, the host site picks up their order from a pre-determined distribution site. The food is transported back to the host church and distributed during a 1 ½ to 2 hour period. People work together for common goals, they meet new friends, or perhaps life-changing conversations take place. Socio-economic distinctions are forgotten and the church begins to regain its God-ordained presence as the centerpiece of the community.
